If you can use a desktop instead of a laptop then it would be better for reliability reasons to buy/use a workstation desktop and maybe a very cheap laptop for portability reasons. I'm assuming you're going to school and need a laptop for class.

If this confuses you then you might check with your school to see what they recommend. I didn't dig deep enough though that laptop's specs to see if the video card was certified. Workstation graphics cards and machines are expensive and a GeForce GT 940MX isn't workstation graphics by any means. I didn't check ALL of the specs so that may not be completely true. Any CPU with SSE2 support will do I guess, but they have only workstation graphics listed as certified. Solidworks has very high requirements, but not much as far as the CPU goes. The Core i7 laptop is recommended for this software.

Both machines have that.ĬAD software or Autodesk The software requires many high frequency cores and lots of ram (16GB) to run fast, but the balanced recommendation is 8GB of RAM. Simulink aka Mathlab? 2GB of memory and 4 CPU cores. The answer really depends on the recommended computer specs for the software you are going to run.
